Dear Friends of MSCL House,
At MSCL House, we believe in second chances--opportunities to change for the better. This summer at MSCL House, second chances were realized all around. It's an indescribable feeling to have witnessed our residents continue to overcome challenges and succeed in their recovery--one person at a time, one challenge at a time, one day at a time. Our kudos to MSCL House residents for grasping these opportunities and making the most of them. With a commitment to change and a solid support system in place, long-term sobriety can be achieved.
More importantly, kudos to YOU, our donors, for your continued support through the years. We are eternally grateful for your many gifts of a second chance.
Sincerely, Sonya Wilander Executive Director |
Kudos to Michael Sterling Wright!
Recovery can be a long, difficult process--one that is often full set of setbacks. Michael took the first step to recovery when he entered MSCL House as resident #2. From day one, he was fully committed to the process. He utilized the services offered to him, stuck to his plan, and worked hard to navigate all the obstacles. This spring, Michael graduated summa cum laude from the College of Southern Idaho with a degree in welding technology and started his own welding business, working as an independent contractor for several business in town. He has defined his success by his achievements at MSCL House. Now he is ready to face the world with confidence and a renewed commitment to a richer and productive life. We are extremely proud of him!

Kudos to Sonya, our Superhero! In May, the South Central Public Health District honored Sonya Wilander as the 2021-2022 Adult Volunteer Health Hero! SCPHD says of Sonya: "Sonya has worked to protect, promote, and enhance the health of Southern Idaho citizens by founding and operating the only sober house in the Wood River Valley. Sonya goes above and beyond in her role by promoting awareness of addiction and preventing the continued cycle of substance abuse for those desiring sobriety."
We agree. Sonya is the soul of our organization. Her passion and dedication to our mission are reflected every day in our residents' achievements. |
Kudos to the Zions Bank Paint-a-Thon Team! Just months into the start of MSCL House's operations in 2019, Zions Bank employees brightened up our new sober home with a coat of paint. Three years later, they were back again as part of the company's paint-a-thon community service project. Just in time for a summer makeover of our front porch. Thank you! |
Kudos to Wicked Wednesday!
Thank you to the Wicked Spud and Tom Archie, Henno Haitur and Jason Vontvner of the Daughaus band for choosing MSCL House as recipients of Wicked Wednesday's proceeds on June 15. Thank you for supporting recovery out loud! |

Kudos to Matthew! Seventeen-year-old Matthew Letourneau, whose father lost his battle with substance abuse when Matt was only 8 years old, was drawn into looking into what options were available to those struggling with addiction to learn what second chances were all about. Thanks to the Kiril and Kate Sokoloff Grants for Compassion and Kindness, Matt, a student at St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire, had the chance to bring his vision to life over the summer.
Having been awarded the Sokoloff Grant, Matt is spending the summer working with MSCL House residents on his “Mind Muscle Library” project which aims to create a physical and virtual space where MSCL House residents can access countless books and publications. The grant will pay for laptops, Kindle readers and Kindle subscriptions, bookshelves, and many good old-fashioned books. Matt is enlisting the help of the residents to create the space and is working with the Hailey Public Library to sign the residents up for the many services available to the community. He is also creating a short film documenting the building of the Mind Muscle Library and highlighting the work of MSCL House.
We are thrilled to have Matt work with us this summer--helping with grant writing, assisting with events, and creating our home library. Matt said: “I feel so honored to get to know the residents at MSCL House and to get to work on this project with them”. The honor is ours, Matt! The Mind Muscle Library is a valuable tool that will support recovery experiences and contribute to the personal growth of MSCL House residents. Kudos to you Matt. for sharing the gift of reading.
