Dear Friends of MSCL House,
Over the past two years, the demand for our services has been so great that we have been operating at near 100% capacity, with no option other than to turn away new applicants because we couldn't accommodate them in our current facility. For that reason, we raised funds to purchase a second sober home in August that would allow us to expand the number of men we can serve. We are thrilled to announce that the second sober home will be at full capacity going into the holidays to allow the men to begin their journey of recovery in support of each other during what can be a challenging time of year for those dealing with addiction.
Looking forward, we are working to strengthen our programs and promise to keep you informed of opportunities for involvement that may arise. You are an integral part of our success and we are forever grateful for your continued support. With gratitude, Sonya Wilander Executive Director |

On a beautiful bluebird morning in July, we held our 1st Annual Pickleball Tournament fundraiser at the Valley Club. This was our first event and we pulled it off thanks to The Valley Club board, management and staff, the incredible tournament organizers, our sponsors and donors, the 64 fearless picklers, spectators, supporters, and volunteers. Our goal was to raise funds to continue to build a strong foundation of recovery for men in our community while having some fun on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. With everyone’s help, we achieved our goal and more. Thank you.

In observance of September as National Recovery Month, MSCL co-hosted a wellness speaking event with The Community Library featuring guest speaker Erica Spiegelman--
addiction specialist, counselor, motivational speaker, and author of Rewired: A Bold New Approach to Addiction and Recovery. Erica touched on a completely new treatment modality focused on how individuals can rewire their brains, change their behavior, and bring about positive change in their lives. Attendees had an opportunity to connect with Erica, learn adaptive coping habits, identify triggers and challenges, and discover new pathways for personal growth.
Special thanks to our sponsors, St. Luke's Health and the Limelight Hotel for making the evening possible. And Sarah Hedrick from Iconoclast for the "Rewired" books and workbooks made available to attendees for purchase. |

For over thirty years, Sally Gillespie has worked in a variety of leadership roles in the nonprofit sector. Twenty-five of those years has been here in the Wood River Valley. She helped launch Spur Community Foundation in 2016 and serves as its executive director. Spur’s mission is to inspire effective philanthropy by assisting donors to give purposefully and impactfully, and by fostering excellence and accountability among nonprofits. We at MSCL are fortunate to have been recipients of both facets of Spur's mission.
Sally and Spur played a vital role in MSCL's early success. In addition to providing seed funding to help us start up with a cushion of operating support, Sally also took the time to review our business plan and make suggestions about modeling financial projections for the first three years of operations. More recently, Spur has contributed to our expansion with a second sober house and introduced people to MSCL who have subsequently become supporters as well.
Spur Community Foundation has been a catalyst for spurring efficiency and possibilities for nonprofits in the Wood River Valley. We are grateful to Sally and the members of the Spur Community Foundation Board for their support of our mission and their willingness to share valuable guidance in support of our efforts to provide the most effective recovery structure for men in recovery in our community. |
A place to call home! We are open for business and taking in our first residents starting October 15. We have many to thank for the success of our capital campaign and many still for the incredible donations of furnishings, housewares, and professional services to get the house up and running in time for the new residents.
